On the cusp of casting forward into a New Year, considering all of the people we plan and hope we might be, I came across these words that I thought would make for a nice reflective thought to leave you with on the last day of the year.
I spend a lot of time in my journal with words that have the prefix ‘re-.’
The prefix means ‘back’ or ‘again and again.' Whenever affixed to make up another word, I imagine myself gently saying, “come on back, you. Here is a reminder of what you know to be true. Remember? Remember? Yes—come on home.”
Re- is confirmation. Reminding, returning, realigning, re-affirming; remembering, recounting, redefining.
Re- reminds me that I am okay. That I can stand firm in the person I am, my ways of being, and the things I like and want to try. It further reminds me that I can come back to things that I have known and liked before in different ways.
Just see if it brings anything up. Enjoy the pause before we’re thrust forward. There’s a lot here already. As we are.

“Remember who you are.
Not the shape others have put on
you, not the story they handed you,
not the lies or needs that were
pressed into your psyche.
Not even your own imagined ideas
of what you should be.
But the real you, the wild innate you
that is breathing under all those
should be’s, all those untruths.
Remember the feel of it, the shape of
it. Let it inhabit you, like golden
weeds rewilding the concrete.”

Thank you for the reminder. The push to change and be something new and different in the New Year always irritates me. I like to remember what I enjoyed and did in the past year. Remember. ❤️
